FINAL MAJOR PROJECT – FINAL OUTCOME
Final Outcomes of 21/22 Final Major Project – “SEEP” . We have the two final version. One for the submission, which is longer, and the other for the show, which is cut down. We also have made Breakdown Reel video.
SCENE 3
This is the final draft for scene 3. I have composited the keyed shots with the 3D environment of the restaurant that I made from the beginning. To make the composite image looks better, I have extracted and used a Z-depth map from Maya. It gives you a second chance to control the focal length on the 3d image you extracted.
SCENE 3 : Ordering Raw clips with green screen footage
This is the initial version of ordering the live-action clips we have taken in the green screen studio. After all, the order will be changed at the stage to combine all the scenes we have created so far, I have ordered these clips to look fine.
SCENE 3 : Ordering the keyed footage
After odering the raw footage, I keyed out the clips taken with green screen. At this stage, I tracked the camera movement as well. I have put the checker board image and color matte image toghether as a background, so that it shows how it is tracked and keyed well.
SCENE 3 : Draft 1 of comp edit
SCENE 3: Version with Sound Effects
This is the version with the sound effects edited by a sound engineer Chaewon Park, who is a friend of mine. She has provided good quality sound effects, such as restaurant ambient sound, cracking crab, eating the crab, etc.
SCENE 2
SCENE2: First projection test in Blender
This is the outcome from Pat, who is my teammate. She has taken Scene 2 to create from scratch. She and I agreed that Blender would be a useful tool to create an ocean in scene 2. Pat and I are not familiar with 3D tools, so it wasn’t easy to use the entire functions in Blender. Particulary, she needed to create a character swimming in the ocean. But showing the face of the character is also one of the important parts of this scene, and it was too difficult to make facial animation on the first try Blender. So she used projection to project the image, that she took with camera, on the 3D character’s face. Although it looks incomplete, it is fine, because the circumstance of this scene will be dark and stormy weather. Our audience will barely see the face of the 3D model.
SCENE 2 shot 3: Final render in Blender + distort effects in Premiere Pro
This is the final result from Blender, She then added more distort effects and grade the scene darker to create a more alarming and unnerving mood.
Nonetheless, she and I feel that something wasn’t quite complete and the scene doesn’t seem alive or full enough. In the end, Pat went with adding some raindrops on lens effects. The raindrops create more dimension as well as create a sense of urgency for the audience as it makes it seem like we are also in the scene.
SCENE 1
SCENE 1 : Crab 3D Model Animation By Sowmya Balasubramanian
These are the draft animation by Sowmya Balasubramanian, a 3D student. Thanks to Sowmya, we could make basic but essential animations of the crab in Maya. One of the main issues in this scene is solved by Sowmya Balasubramanian. But the other issue is about rendering and simulation of pouring water in Maya. We have tried to use the render farm to export several scenes from different angles. But we had realized there are overflowed water simulations after exporting it. Thanks to Anna, who is a technician, she helped us to know how to make render faster by baking the simulation’s cache in Maya. Although Pat wasn’t satisfied with the color of the water, because she think it look too dark, It looks fine to me. It looks like the actual soy sauce looks like.
